Two Christian families became the victims of Pakistan’s ever-growing religious intolerance last week. The families were subjected to extreme violence due to the low social standing Christians are afforded in Pakistan’s Muslim-dominated society.
The families were reportedly attacked last week by a mob of enraged radicals because a nearby mosque accused its members of committing blasphemy following an altercation with a Muslim man.
According to a Britain-based charity advocating on behalf of Pakistani Christians, the families, who are from the Arif Wala Tehsil district of Punjab province, were forced to flee from their homes after the attack last Wednesday by a mob of about 40 Muslim men and children with weapons

The British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA), which is assisting the families financially, noted that the local mosque announced on its loudspeakers that the Christians had insulted the prophet Muhammad, hence, inciting the mob to seek a violent confrontation.
The mosque allegedly called for Muslim believers to bond together to force the minority Christian community of about seven families out of the village.
The families were forced from their houses and have since sought refuge in the home of a moderate Muslim lawyer where they are safe for now.
